Gaming Traveler: Poker show lets you play pros
Poker, once nearly muscled off casino floors by gimmicky table games and flashy slot machines, is hotter than ever in Las Vegas, thanks to the game's popularity on TV.
Now, the Venetian Resort Hotel & Casino will try to build on those winnings by staging The Real Deal!, an audience-participation show, in its Venetian Showroom, starting in October.
The show will combine the elements of a game show with comedy and celebrities, all revolving around the now-familiar poker game of Texas Hold 'Em. Since this is Las Vegas, there will be prizes, including the long-shot possibility for an audience member to win $1 million.
Playing Poker by Daniel Negreanu : Learn both cash-game, tournament styles
There are two ways to make money at poker: sticking to the tournament scene or grinding it out in cash games. You'll need to learn a vastly different skill set to consistently grow your bankroll in each environment because each venue tends to attract a specific kind of player.
Recreational players are more apt to play in tournaments, whereas higher-skilled players usually favor cash games. That's an important distinction because the better-skilled your opponents are, the more creativity and sophistication you'll need to bring to the table.
Playing Poker by Daniel Negreanu : Learn opponent's personality traits
Once you've learned to interpret a player's betting patterns, try to figure out how his personality traits might reveal the kinds of poker decisions he will make. Focus on poker fundamentals first. Then learn to get inside other players' heads and use the information you gather to make solid decisions. Here's how to do it.
When you watch me play on television, you'll notice that I engage my opponents in conversation by asking routine questions: Where are you from? How long have you been playing poker? Do you play on the Internet? What do you do for a living?
Every answer reveals a little information that helps paint a picture of who they are and how they play. Asking these questions is the first step in reading people.

WSOP IN FULL SWING
Greetings from the Rio, where the 39th annual World Series of Poker just entered its second week of play. The big story seems to be … that there isn’t a story. In recent years, most of the news that has come from the halls of the Rio convention center early in the WSOP wasn’t always good, as players and the media often chose to focus on the negatives, like long lines, and experiments gone wrong. This year, however, the player, fan, and media experience has gone really smoothly. I haven’t seen a line at registration longer than about 20 people, and the tournament room seems to be humming along just fine, thanks.

World Series Of Poker Main Event Players Have More Coaching
The World Series of Poker has become increasingly popular. Several factors play into the popularity. Television exposure is way up, with poker tournaments being aired on many stations. Local laws allowing legalized poker gambling has also spread the marketability of the game.
Within the WSOP is the main event, likely the most popular poker tournament in the world. All of the big professionals play in the event, and they are usually joined by thousands of amateurs. This is where the tournament has changed over the past few years.
Poker pros who could not reach the final table at the main event, used to just move on to another tournament. Now, with television exposure being so high for the event, they have gone another route.
