World Poker Association Names Wendeen Eolis Chairman

By ok-poker - Posted on 02 April 2008

Wendeen Eolis, who served as World Poker Association Vice-Chair in 2007 and Chair of its Executive Committee since last December has been elected by the Board of Directors to serve as the organization’s Chairman.

The mandate for Eolis will be to continue to push WPA’s evolving mission - to promote poker as a sport by advocating professionalism and uniform rules and standards of conduct, and by helping to create increased economic opportunities for players.

Eolis should know exactly what she’s looking for. In 1986 she became the first woman to cash in the World Series of Poker main event. She repeated the feat in 1993. Since being elected to her new role Eolis has been busy setting the groundwork for the first WPA conference and in negotiating a deal with the WSOP to hold a WPA mega-satelllite.

“This is a good a first step in WPA’s efforts to improve playing conditions for tournament competitors around the world,” said Eolis.

Eolis is no stranger to the political landscape either, having served as a special advisor to then New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani and as a special advisor to then New York George Pataki.

“Wendeen is unceasing in her dedication to the WPA and willing and eager to take on any task, solve any problem to help the WPA in its evolving mission,” said board member Lou Krieger.
