N.S. man wins big at poker
He didn’t win the championship, but a Nova Scotia man will be bringing home a hefty cheque from the World Series of Poker. Dartmouth’s Owen Crowe placed 15th at the annual no-limit Texas hold’em in Las Vegas Monday night. He’ll take home more than $463,000. More than 6,800 people entered the tournament, paying $10,000 a piece to play. The tournament website said Mr. Crowe put all his chips in the pot after he was dealt a pair of nines. His opponent, Ivan Demidov, ended up with a pair of queens, forcing Mr. Crowe out of the tournament and taking down a $1.84 million pot. It’s not the first time Mr. Crowe has cashed in at a poker tournament. The website pokerpages.com says he’s won money in seven tournaments, taking home almost $200,000. His most recent winnings were at a World Series of Poker event on June 19. Mr. Crowe won more than $81,000. Written By Devin Stevens thechronicleherald.ca
